Hoy 30 de enero se cumplen exactamente 30 años de que nos dejase Luke Kelly, el que fuera uno de los fundadores del grupo de folk The Dubliners. Su prematuro fallecimiento a los 43 años no fue óbice para que su legado aún perdure y se le considere uno de los más valiosos exponentes de la cultura irlandesa de la segunda mitad del siglo XX. Un icono para su generación y un ejemplo para las futuras, un músico que aunó talento y carisma sobresalientes que le sirvieron para alcanzar su merecido asiento entre las leyendas eternas de la música de este país. A mí no se me ocurre mejor homenaje para este día que recordarlo con ‘On Raglan Road’, la que dicen los entendidos fue la mejor de sus interpretaciones. Una letra de un maravilloso poema del escritor -y también genio- Patrick Kavanagh, una melodía prestada del tema tradicional ‘The dawning of the day’ y la inimitable voz de Luke se juntan en esta canción para fraguar una obra maestra inmortal.
